Josh Brolin Cast in Denis Villeneuve's Adaptation of DUNE

Josh Brolin is the latest actor to join the cast of director Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. The cast for this film is turning out to be super impressive and I can’t wait to see Villeneuve’s vision of this story brought to life.

Brolin joins the previously cast Oscar Isaac and Rebecca Ferguson who will play Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica. Stellan Skarsgård will play Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista will play his murderous nephew, and Charlotte Rampling will play the Reverend Mother Mohiam. Then there’s Zendaya who would play the love interest of Timothee Chalamet’s character Paul Atreides, Chani. Javier Bardem was also cast in the role of Stilgar, the leader of a tribe that helps Paul.

Brolin will take on the role of Gurney Halleck, “a troubadour-swordsman loyal to the family who is instrumental in the wakening of Atreides’ cosmic powers which will start a revolution.”

Set in the distant future, Dune follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.

Dune will be shooting in Budapest and Jordan starting this spring. What are your thoughts on Brolin joining the film?
