Josh Brolin Says He "Won't Ever Stop Shitting" on His 2010 DC Superhero Movie JONAH HEX
Academy Award-nominated actor Josh Brolin is known for his nostalgic films like The Goonies, as well as his nominated dramas like Labor Day and No Country For Old Men. He has also starred in some well-received superhero movies like Deadpool and the Avengers Infinity Saga. But, like most actors, he has also starred in some movies that didn’t turn out so great, and he doesn’t shy away from speaking frankly about them, namely his 2010 DC superhero flick, Jonah Hex, in which he played the title role.
Despite a stellar cast that included John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Michael Shannon, Megan Fox and Will Arnett, the movie just didn’t turn out well, not for fans and not in the box office.
In a recent interview with GQ, Brolin candidly said of the film:
"I won't ever stop shitting on Jonah Hex, because it was a shitty fucking movie!"
You can’t get any more blunt than that! But he does take a breath and reboots to give an important amendment regarding one part of that experience–the relationship he'd had with Jimmy Hayward, Jonah Hex’s director, who Brolin claimed at the time was overmatched and too inexperienced to give the movie the jolt it sorely needed.
They recently reconnected; Hayward apologized for his part in the mess, then revealed that he's been in and out of the hospital with an agonizing form of bone cancer, which has required multiple facial reconstructive surgeries.
Brolin said:
"It reminded me [that] you can't just keep shitting on somebody. I don't know what the fuck's going on in his life. I mean, total facial reconstruction, the whole thing."
It’s good to hear that they were able to reconnect and move forward, and though Brolin is blunt about his opinion of the film, he is able to have a relationship with the guy who made it.
