Josh Brolin Says THE GOONIES Was One of His Greatest Experiences but He Almost Ruined the First Day of Shooting
The Goonies is on so many of our “favorite films” list. It’s a movie with a ton of heart, a great story, and a ton of great actors, although many of them were just cutting their teeth as brand new members of the industry. One in particular was Josh Brolin, who we now know as an Oscar-nominated, well-loved actor, but back then, he admits he was out of his depth.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Brolin talked about the experience making the film with great fondness, but he admits he was out of his depth at first, in taking on the role of big brother Brand.
"I mean, I was nervous. I ruined the first half day of filming because I was laughing purely out of nervousness. I had no idea what I was doing. I know I fit that role nicely and what they saw, that jock kind of thing. But no."
When asked what piece of advice he would give to himself if he could go back in time, the star says he would tell young Josh, "Relax."
Despite the first day fumble, Brolin says he doesn't have any regrets when it comes to the family film.
"We had a good time. I don't know if I would change anything. I think that first half day, maybe just to save them some money. But we had a really, really good time back then. That was, it still stands as one of my greatest experiences ever."
The movie holds up, with every generation since its release finding a love for it, and screenings still happening all over each year. The cast has remained friends, and there have been rumblings for years about a sequel.
While a follow-up with the original cast would be totally welcomed by the fans, it’s respectable that they haven’t thrown something together just as a money grab. I feel like if they make another movie at this point, it will be because they found a good story to tell.
