Josh Brolin Slams The Academy Voters For Snubbing DUNE Director Denis Villeneuve
Josh Brolin is not happy that Dune director Denis Villeneuve was snubbed by the Academy Award voters for Best Director. It was pretty crazy to see that the film landed 10 nominations including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and more, and yet he’s not nominated for Best Director. That made no sense to me and it didn’t make sense to Brolin either, who shared a video on Social Media, saying:
“It’s just one of those things that you just go, ‘Huh? What?!‘ I don’t know how you get 10 nominations and then the guy who’s done the impossible with that book doesn’t get nominated. It makes you realize that it’s all amazing and then it’s all fucking totally dumb. So, congratulations for the amazing accomplishments that these incredibly talented people have been acknowledged for, because it’s all really, really dumb.”
It is dumb! Villeneuve did an incredible job directing this movie and in my opinion, he is the best director of the year. While I enjoyed the films of the other nominees, none of their films come close to what Villeneuve did with bringing Dune to life. Maybe he’ll get nominated for the sequel.
The directors who were nominated include Jane Campion for The Power of Dog, Paul Thomas Anderson for Licorice Pizza, Kenneth Branagh for Belfast, Steven Spielberg for West Side Story, and Ryusuke Hamaguchi for Drive My Car.
Yeah, the Academy Awards have become a joke over the years. I used to love watching the Academy Awards! But, over the years it just slowly started turning into shit. These days, I don’t even really care about the Oscars. I haven’t even watched them the past couple of years.
What do you think about Brolin’s comments about the Academy?
