Josh Lucas, Tim Blake Nelson, and Josh Duhamel Join Brandon Sklenar in Paramount’s Western Thriller THE RESCUE

Paramount’s upcoming Western thriller The Rescue is continuing to build an impressive cast as production ramps up. The film, which stars Brandon Sklenar, has added several notable actors to the lineup, including Josh Lucas, Tim Blake Nelson, and Josh Duhamel.

With cameras already rolling, the project is shaping up to be one of the studio’s more intriguing Western titles on the horizon.

While Paramount is keeping the full story details under wraps, the film is described as a modern-day Western thriller. The story centers on a rodeo cowboy whose unique skill set is pushed far beyond the arena when circumstances demand more from him than just staying in the saddle.

The new additions join a growing ensemble that also includes Nick Searcy, Lorelei Olivia Mote, Austin Amelio, Spencer Treat Clark, and Hassie Harrison.

The film is directed by Potsy Ponciroli, who previously helmed the gritty Western Old Henry. Ponciroli is working from a screenplay written by John Fusco, a writer known for his experience in the Western genre. The movie is currently in production and is scheduled to hit theaters on January 29, 2027.

The project has reportedly been a priority for some time. Development began when Skydance was still working on the film before the Skydance and Paramount merger. Now, it also stands as one of the first projects officially greenlit under the newly combined regime.

In addition to directing, Ponciroli is producing the film alongside Shannon Houchins and Cliff Roberts, with Down Home serving as executive producer.

With a strong lead in Sklenar and a supporting cast packed with recognizable talent like Lucas, Nelson, and Duhamel, hopefully, The Rescue will be a strong Western thriller. It will be interesting to see what kind of story Ponciroli and Fusco have cooked up for this modern cowboy tale when the film rides into theaters in early 2027.
