Josh Trank Says He Quit The BOBA FETT Movie Because He Knew He Was Going To Be Fired

Josh Trank had a bright future as a filmmaker ahead of him after he made Chronicle, but after his work on Fantastic Four, that all fell apart for a variety of reasons. While working on Fantastic Four, the director was attached to direct a Boba Fett standalone film for Lucasfilm. But, as we all know, that didn’t work out.

Lucasfilm and Trank parted ways. It was explained by various sources that Trank was fired from the film due to his "erratic" behavior on the set of Fantastic Four. But, those are claims he denies and he has a different story. In an interview with Polygon, Trank claims that he was not fired from Star Wars but quit after finding that working within the studio system was proving difficult.

"I quit because I knew I was going to be fired if I didn't quit.”

It seems like Trank isn’t the kind of guy that would own up to his mistakes. But, who knows what really happened!? All I know is that there are multiple people who are telling a different story than he is.

When talking about mulling over an offer from LucasFilm to work on the Boba Fett movie, he walked to George Lucas' house and on his way back, he came up with his three-act Boba Fett movie. He said:

"The visions that I had in that moment were just out of this world.”

The filmmaker previously discussed not wanting to comment on the Star Wars situation because "it would blow over", and the director went on to say:

"But I was shocked. It just hasn't blown over. People get so excited to raise their pitchforks. I knew that this was going to be questioned and it was going to come under scepticism as to why I left Star Wars, and it was hard."

While the Boba Fett movie never happened, and probably may not happen, at least we have Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian, and there’s a chance that Boba Fett will appear in that at some point!
