Joss Whedon Says BATGIRL Will Explore the Damage That Makes Barbara Gordon So Hardcore

In another interview with Joss Whedon, the director talks about what makes Batgirl so interesting to him and the idea behind the story that he's obsessed with telling in his new film. He basically is looking to explore the reasons behind why a young girl like Barbara Gordon would turn to a hardcore life of fighting crime as Batgirl. He wants to show what her damage is. He explains to THR:

"She came up, and I started getting obsessed with how a young woman could get hardcore enough to need to put on the cowl. Like, What's her damage?"

He goes on to say:

"She didn't have her parents killed in an alley. Who is this person, who decides — rather than being forced to by their childhood trauma — decides to pick up this life How intense and driven that person is ... I just couldn't stop thinking about it."

I love the angle that he's looking to take with the character by exploring the motivation of her need to be Batgirl. It'll be interesting to see what Whedon actually does with the story of this character. As a long time fan of Whedon, I can't help but believe that he's going to give us something incredible.
