Judd Apatow Confirmed To Direct a Two-Part George Carlin Documentary For HBO
A couple of months ago we learned that Judd Apatow was developing a documentary based on legendary comedian George Carlin. That news has now been confirmed and it will be a two-part doc that will debut on HBO.
Apatow will direct alongside Michael Bonfiglio and the doc will include interviews with Carlin’s family and friends, as well as material from Carlin’s archives and clips from his TV appearances. In a statement, Apatow said, “It is an honor to be given the opportunity to tell the story of his life and work.”
Teddy Leifer, the project’s executive producer of the series said, “The sting of his words is as sharp now as when he was on stage. Carlin is the comedian’s comedian who mastered his craft and shaped American counterculture such that he paved the way for a generation of comics that followed.”
George Carlin is considered to be one of the funniest stand-up comedians ever. I’ve always enjoyed his stand-up comedy. He was a super sharp and smart comedian that didn’t shy away from being politically incorrect. His comedy included hilarious and brilliant social criticism and also made insightful observations about American culture.
While I’m a fan of his comedy, I’ve never really known the man behind the comedy, so this doc is sure to provide some insightful details.
