Judd Apatow is Developing a Documentary on Legendary Comedian George Carlin
George Carlin is considered by many to be one of the funniest stand-up comedians ever. Over the years I’ve enjoyed watching his stand-up comedy and his stuff never fails at making me laugh. He was a super sharp comedian that didn’t shy away from being politically incorrect. His comedy included hilarious and brilliant social criticism and also made insightful observations about American culture.
While I enjoyed his comedy, I’ve never really known the man behind the comedy. Well, that’s going to change with an upcoming documentary that is being developed by writer and director Judd Apatow (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Trainwreck). He revealed that he was making the doc during an interview with The Boston Globe, saying:
“[I’m] aboutto start work with my partner Michael Bonfiglio on a documentary about George Carlin. So I’m looking forward to watching a lot of Carlin interviews and specials. I think his work turned out to be very prophetic.”
Michael Bonfiglio has worked with Judd Apatow in the past on the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary Doc & Darryl, which tells the story of New York Mets players Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry, who were beloved athletes that ended up down a destructive path.
It’s going to be interesting to see what parts of Carlin’s life this new documentary will cover. It’s definitely something I’m interested in watching. Carlin died of heart failure at 71 years old back in 2008. Below you’ll find one of his most famous comedy bits, about the seven words you can’t say on TV. Enjoy!
