Julia Garner Offered Role of Madonna in Upcoming Biopic Project
A few months ago we learned that Florence Pugh (Black Widow) and Julia Garner (Ozark) were in the running to play Madonna in a new biopic film that’s currently in development. Well, Garner has been offered the role of the pop icon.
According to Variety, Garner has emerged as the favorite of over a dozen candidates, some of which include Alexa Demie (Euphoria), Odessa Young (Mothering Sunday), and Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown). Then there are musicians including Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira.
Madonna will be directing the film, and the audition process for these actresses is said to have been "grueling," with up to 11 hours a day of choreography sessions with Madonna's choreographer and Madonna herself, as well as singing auditions. They needed to find the right talented individual who will "have to be able to do everything." They obviously found that in Garner.
Garner is an incredibly talented actress and if she ends up accepting the role, I have no doubt that she’ll deliver a great performance!
The film is set up at Universal Pictures, and it “will follow the early days of the oft-controversial artist and queen of perpetual reinvention.” When talking about the movie Madonna she said she hoped to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
Universal Film Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley won the script in a bidding war, and she described Madonna as “the ultimate icon, humanitarian, artist and rebel.” Amy Pascal is attached as a producer.
