Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Talks to Star in FORCE MAJEURE Remake
Many people pegged the Swedish film Force Majeure to win the Best Foreign Language Film at this year's Academy Awards ceremony, so when it wasn't even nominated, it came as quite a shock. (It's the same situation that happened in regards to The LEGO Movie.) When films win Oscars, they always see a bump in popularity from people who don't always follow the industry but are curious to check out the best films of the year. And even though Ruben Ostlund's movie didn't take home any awards from the Oscars, it looks like it could still experience that bump in popularity: THR reports that the film is being prepped for a remake, with Seinfeld, Veep, and Enough Said star Julia Louis-Dreyfus set to produce and star.
Majeure is the award-winning Swedish drama that tells of a family staying in a resort in the French Alps. An avalanche threatens the resort and the father, in an act of selfish cowardice, deserts his family. When the avalanche passes and the family is safely reunited, the man’s actions create a deep fissure in the unit that might not be repaired.
The original movie just arrived on Netflix Instant, so I'm definitely going to check that one out before seeing this new version. But for those of you who have already seen it, are you interested in seeing a remake so soon if it has someone hilarious like Louis-Dreyfus on board?
