Junkie XL Confirms He Created a 4-Hour Score for JUSTICE LEAGUE and That He's Scoring FURIOSA
During a recent interview with the Film Junkee Vodka Stream, composer Tom Holkenborg, a.k.a. Junkie XL, discussed the work he did on the score for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. He confirmed that the film will run 4 hours and 20 minutes, which includes a 10-minute intermission and 10-minute end credit suite. This means that Junkie XL has created the longest music composition for a full feature film ever.
The film composer also revealed that he will also return to score director George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa.
When talking about Zack Snyder’s Justice League, he shared the following details:
He described the movie as his “Mount Everest” because it was the biggest project he ever worked as it features over four hours of music.
He said Wonder Woman’s theme was redone in order to focus more on her Amazonia roots.
Cyborg’s theme is described as the most emotional bit of the score; and the character gets a 15 minute origin story with lots of music and very little dialogue.
He created a badass new theme for Aquaman.
The Flash has two big solo moments in the film that get their own needle-drops.
Batman’s theme has been rewritten to focus on his attempts to bring the League together; and there’s a new guitar riff that plays during his awesome moments.
Steppenwolf, Darkseid and The Motherboxes all have the same them, which is dubbed “a choir from Hell”.
Superman’s theme is mostly the same albeit executed with electronic guitars that give it a rock song feel.
Junkie XL didn’t say weather or not he wrote a theme song for Jared Leto’s Joker.
Junkie XL didn’t say much about Furiosa, but he’s working on it, and it will be released in theaters on June 23, 2023.
