JURASSIC WORLD Congratulates THE FORCE AWAKENS on Beating Its Box Office Record
During the past forty years or so, the box office record for highest opening weekend of all time has changed hands multiple times. Directors like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas would leave full page ads for each other in Hollywood trade magazines as a way to congratulate the new champion, and now that we're in the age of social media, those congratulatory messages have switched over to social media. When Jurassic World beat The Avengers for highest opening weekend box office performance of all time earlier this year, Kevin Feige and the people at Marvel Studios shared a cool graphic that featured characters from both franchises, and now the Jurassic World team is doing the same thing for the newly-crowned champions, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Jurassic World producer Frank Marshall congratulated J.J. Abrams and Marshall's wife Kathleen Kennedy on Twitter by sharing this image of a T-rex bestowing a medal on BB-8:
Pretty cool. The Force Awakens broke the record for the highest-grossing opening night ever with $57 million, and the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend ever with $529 million worldwide. You can read my review here, and my ranking of the new characters right here.
