JUSTICE LEAGUE Brings In $96 Million In First Weekend, Less Than A Third Of Its Budget

Justice League won opening weekend at the box office, and while that's better than not winning, the film still has a long way to go. $96 million, while decent, is still far below the reported $300-$350 million it cost to make this film (via Collider), and that opening weekend didn't even cover a third of the cost.

For reference, Batman V Superman's opening weekend netted $166 million,  and it's followed by The Dark Knight Rises ($160 million) and The Dark Knight ($158 million) for the best opening weekends for DC films of all time. Justice League's showing puts it around 53rd on the biggest opening weekends, which is far away from Marvel's superhero ensemble films which occupy 3rd, 4th, and 5th spots respectively. I'm not saying that to trigger any DC fans or spark a debate, just to showcase how much of a problem it is that this film didn't kick ass in its first weekend.

Obviously, a lot of the DCU depends on the success of Justice League, and if were at a discussion where foreign box office is being looked at to help this film break even...things aren't looking good. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you liked Justice League, you may want to see it twice.
