JUSTICE LEAGUE is Reportedly Going Through Major Re-shoots That Have Remade The Movie
Before I get into this, I want to say that re-shoots are a normal part of the Hollywood film-making process. What makes this different is that the re-shoots for Justice League are reportedly so major that the movie has technically been remade. That's pretty significant. Remember that the reason for these re-shoots is to make the film better, not worse. This doesn't mean the movie is in trouble. Remember when we all thought Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was in trouble because of the extensive re-shoots it went through? Then the movie came out and it was awesome! I hope that's the case for Justice League.
Now, let's get on to what is being reported by Splash Report. According to their source, who is the same source that informed them of the Rogue One re-shoots, they said that in "the 17 months between the start of principal photography and the final cut arriving in theaters in November that the film will have essentially been remade…twice". Twice!?
They go on to say that Warner Bros. is putting "everything it has into overhauling the movie". Apparently, they didn’t like what they were seeing and they want to make sure everything gets fixed before the movie is released. The studio wants this to be a great movie; they don't want to be trashed by critics and fans again. They want this movie not only to succeed at the box office, but they also want critics and fans to love it.
These re-shoots that they are doing aren't over either. In a recent update they received from their source:
“There are more re-shoots COMING SOON. There have been a bunch but they’re going to do MORE.”
This sounds insane. You'd think that Warner Bros. wouldn't move forward on a huge film like this without a solid script in place. If they had a solid script that everyone was happy with before they started shooting, they wouldn't have to deal with all these re-shoots that are basically remaking the story they originally set out to tell.
I remember hearing stories about how Marvel's Iron Man and Iron Man 2 didn't have complete scripts when they started filming. The same thing happened with Suicide Squad, which went through some significant re-shoots of its own. In the end, they had six or seven different version of the movie. I liked the version that they released more than most people, but it was completely blasted by a ton of critics and fans.
There are a lot of big budget movies that start shooting without a complete script, and that baffles me. You'd think that this could all be avoided if everyone read and agreed on a script.
Justice League is set to hit theaters November 17, 2017, and I hope that whatever they are doing with it in regards to these re-shoots works. I really want to see a great Justice League movie! Do you think they will be able to pull it off like Lucasfilm did with Rogue One?
