Justin Lin Signs On to Direct the Live-Action Adaptation of ONE PUNCH MAN
When director Justin Lin parted ways with Vin Diesel in the middle of shooting Fast X, I knew it wouldn’t be long before he jumped onto a new film project. He’s now set to direct a live-action adaptation of the hit manga and anime series One Punch Man for Sony Pictures.
One Punch Man was created by Japanese artist ONE, and it tells the story of Saitama, a superhero who can defeat any opponent with a single punch but seeks to find a worthy opponent after growing bored by a lack of challenges in his fight against evil. It’s a great anime and it’ll be interesting to see if Lin will be able to properly adapt it for the big screen.
Screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who worked on Jumanji: The Next Level, and Venom, are set to write the film with the help of Lin. Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions (Spider-Man franchise, Iron Man, X-Men franchise, Venom) are producing the film. I’ll be honest, I’m worried about the Arads being involved. They don’t make the best creative decisions.
Sony’s plan is to have the project ready to start production by the end of the year. This seems like it’ll be a fun project for Lin to work. Hopefully, he can pull it off and make a great One Punch Man movie!
