Justin Timberlake has been hired to star in the series adaptation of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind that is being developed at Apple TV+. The story is based on the true story of former Gong Show host Chuck Barris’ memoir, and was previously told in the George Clooney-directed 2002 film of the same name, with Sam Rockwell starring.

Suspense, excess, danger and exuberant fun come together in Chuck Barris' unlikely autobiography -- the tale of a wildly flamboyant 1970s television producer, better known as the infamous host of The Gong Show. What most people don't know is that Barris allegedly spent close to two decades as a decorated covert assassin for the CIA.

Barris, who achieved tremendous success as the creator and producer of hit TV game shows such as The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game, claims to have joined the CIA as an agent in the early 1960s, infiltrated the Civil Rights movement, met with militant Muslims in Harlem, and traveled abroad in order to kill enemies of the United States.

Miramax, which produced the movie, will co-produce the series with Paramount Television Studios. David Hollander will executive produce and serve as showrunner, with Jon Worley writing the script.

This will be a re-team for Timberlake and Apple, as he just starred in the film Palmer, which rose the streamer’s viewership by more than 33% in the weekend it debuted.

The movie this story is based on was great, and it will be fun to see an hour-long series dive deeper into the story. Timberlake is a great actor, and I’m excited to see him take on this project.
