Karen Gillan Was Surprised by the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Post-Credits Scene

Fans knew when we watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it was the culminating finale to the epic trilogy that writer and director James Gunn set out to tell, and with him taking on the job to lead the film universe over at DC Studios, we knew it would be a while before he’d return to helm anything for Marvel. So we expected an ending all wrapped up with a bow, but instead, we got some post-credits scenes that totally made us excited for more Guardians of the Galaxy adventures!

In a recent interview with THR, franchise actress Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the films, was asked what she thought about the scenes, namely the one in which we see the announcement that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” Gillan explained that she was surprised by the news, saying:

“No, I don’t remember seeing that in the script. So either I have a bad memory or it wasn’t in there. So it was pretty surprising, but it was cool as well. I was like, ‘Okay, what’s the plan here?’”

When asked if she thinks Nebula and Drax are going to last long in their parental roles on Knowhere, she responded:

“Yeah, I’d like to think so. Nebula has got a real sense of purpose now, and it’s such a major part of healing. She’s been through so much, and now she can finally accept love and show love towards other people. So the last stage of all that healing is helping other people, and that’s exactly what she’s doing.”

With Gunn moving over to co-run DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, Gillan has openly stated that she’d love to play Poison Ivy for her former director, but after the decade’s worth of work he already provided her, she’s not going to press him on the subject.

“The fact that Nebula turned into ten years of work is the greatest thing that’s happened to me. So I like to leave things up to the universe a little bit and see what happens, but I would absolutely love to work with James again. He’s the best.”

Whatever happens with Nebula and Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians, I just hope we get to see them again. The films are fantastic, and the Holiday Special is now a favorite part of our family’s celebration, so anything else they throw our way from here out is just gravy.
