Karen Gillan Teases That Nebula's Story in the MCU Is Just Beginning
Nebula has been a favorite character of mine in both Marvel Comics and the MCU. She’s a great and interesting character with layers, and Karen Gillan has wonderfully brought her to life. It’s been great to see her story arc play out in the MCU, and we know that arc is going to continue with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and possibly Thor: Love and Thunder. Beyond that, I don’t know what to expect, but according to Gillan, her story is just beginning.
During a recent interview with Fandom, the actress explained:
“I don’t feel like her story is over at all. If anything, I feel like her story might just be beginning. We found her in a really broken, vulnerable place and over the course of the movies, she’s had to face the source of all of her abuse. She’s just had this huge, cathartic experience and the source of the abuse has been eliminated, so what happens next? That’s something that I think is incredibly interesting. The healing can start but that’s not going to be easy and it’s not going to be immediate either.”
This is a character that I would love to continue to see explored for years to come. Even if it’s not in the films, she definitely deserves her own series on Disney+. There’s just so much ground and story to cover with her. Gillian went on to talk about how she plans to approach the role moving forward, saying:
"I can’t wait to kind of channel that into Nebula but also have fun with her at the same time. I feel like we’re really going to start to define who she is without Thanos looming over her.”
I’m in full support of this, and I hope that Marvel Studios really does have plans to expand on her arc and explore the character further. What do you hope to see from the character Nebula in the future of the MCU?
