Karl Urban Set to Star in Amazon's Superhero Series THE BOYS
Karl Urban (Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Dredd) has landed the lead role in Amazon Studios' upcoming superhero series The Boys! Everyone's a fan of Karl Urban and this is a great project for him to be a part of! It seems like something that he'd have a lot of fun doing, especially with the character that he gets to play.
The Boys takes places in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, and centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as "the boys" who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.
According to THR, Urban will take on the role of Billy Butcher, who is described as "mysterious and brutal with a personal but secret agenda. He approaches Hughie (Jack Quaid), claiming to be a shadowy government operative. Butcher capitalizes on Hughie's rage over his girlfriend Robin’s accidental death at the hands of Superhero A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) and enlists Hughie as part of his plan to bring down the superhero system."
If you're a fan of the series Supernatural, you'll be happy to hear that creator Eric Kripke also created this series and will serve as the showrunner. And if you happen to be a fan of Seth Rogen, you'll be happy to hear that he is directing the series with his longtime producing partner Evan Goldberg.
The creators of The Boys comic book, Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, are co-executive producers on the series. When you add Neal H. Moritz into the mix as a producer, you pretty much have the whole main team that developed Preacher for AMC and that series is amazing!
The addition of Karl Urban just takes this series project to a whole new level and I'm seriously excited to watch it! What do you all think about seeing Urban taking on the lead role?
The series will also star Karen Fukuhara, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Chace Crawford and Nathan Mitchell.
