Kate Beckinsale Set to Lead Dark Kidnap Thriller THE SAVIOR
Kate Beckinsale is gearing up for another intense ride, signing on to headline a new action-thriller titled The Savior. The project pairs her with veteran filmmaker Russell Mulcahy, the director behind cult favorites like Highlander and Resident Evil: Extinction, and it sounds like they’re aiming for something dark, gritty, and emotionally charged.
In The Savior, Beckinsale plays Jordyn Parker, a mother battling addiction whose life implodes when her daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers.
With time running out and the odds stacked against her, Jordyn is forced to tap into a violent past she’s tried hard to leave behind. This isn’t a clean-cut revenge fantasy. It’s a raw survival story about how far a parent will go when everything they love is taken.
The film is said to be in the vein of Man on Fire, Collateral, and Sicario, with a heavy, brooding tone closer to Prisoners and Se7en. The story comes from Marc Furmie and Jason Mavraidis, based on an original concept by Corey Large, who is also producing through his 308 Ent banner.
Large summed up the heart of the film with this statement: “The Savior was based on the conceit that there is nothing a parent wouldn’t do to save their child – even if it means facing the darkest demons they have spent years burying.
“Russell has brought us some of the most iconic action movies and thrillers of the past 40 years and we’re thrilled to have his vision behind this gritty, no holds barred screenplay.”
Beckinsale continues to lean into action-driven roles, most recently leading the thriller Canary Black. She’s also popped up in Fool’s Paradise from Charlie Day and the drama Prisoner’s Daughter.
Cameras are expected to roll in late February.
