Kathleen Kennedy Says the Core STAR WARS Films Focus on the Skywalker Family Saga

While talking about Lucasfilm and Disney's upcoming Star Wars film plans with Costco Connection, Kathleen Kennedy revealed an interesting little detail regarding the upcoming Star Wars trilogy and what makes them different from the standalone A Star Wars Story films. This offers us a tease of what the future of the Star Wars franchise holds. She says:

"The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe."

The big takeaway here is the fact that the saga will focus on the Skywalker generational story. There are no specific details given as to how exactly that will play out throughout the saga, but obviously the Skywalker history and name is going to play a huge role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII, and Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Episode IX

I imagine that there are plans to keep this saga rolling forward after these next three chapters are released.

There are lots of rumors regarding certain characters who are being introduced in The Force Awakens. Both Rey and Kylo Ren have been rumored to be descendants of the Skywalkers, but that is still unconfirmed. Maybe there's another big character that we have yet to be introduced to.

I guess we'll find out when Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released on December 18th. To catch up on all of our news on The Force Awakens, click here.
