Ke Huy Quan Recalls Getting "So Scared" on INDIANA JONES Set as a Kid; Harrison Ford’s Response Was Pure Indy
Ke Huy Quan’s journey as an actor in Hollywood began in 1984 with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but for a young kid on his first movie set, the experience wasn’t always as adventurous as it looked on screen.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Quan opened up about a moment of pure fear while filming the mine cart chase escape sequence with Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones.
Quan admitted: “When we shot this sequence, I was so scared, and I cried. I remember Harrison Ford kneeling down in front of me and asking me if I was okay.”
Ford then gave Quan words of comfort that stuck with him for decades.
“He said, and I’ll never forget this, ‘Ke, I want you to remember, I will never hurt you.’ When he said that, oh my gosh, it just made me love him so much more. Here is Indiana Jones telling me that he’s gonna take care of me.”
While Temple of Doom was the only film the two actors made together, their bond carried through the years. Ford became one of Quan’s biggest cheerleaders during his awards season run for Everything Everywhere All at Once, which led to an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor.
When Ford presented the Best Picture award at the ceremony, he and Quan shared an emotional hug on stage as Everything took the top prize.
“I’m so happy for him. He’s a great guy. He’s a wonderful actor. He was when he was a little kid, and he still is. I’m glad. I’m very happy for him.”
Looking back, Quan credits Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom with sparking his love for action films.
“I remember watching it for the first time at our premiere, seeing it put together with sound effects and music for the first time. I was blown away by all of it. I was only 13 then. It made me fall in love with action.”
All these years later Quan still continues to have fun making action movies.
