Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Explain the "Beautiful Script" Written for THE MATRIX 4 Is Why They Came Back

It was super exciting to hear that we were getting another sequel to The Matrix, and the fact that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss signed up to reprise their roles was pretty damn awesome.

The film is coming from Lana Wachowski, who co-wrote and co-directed the original trilogy with her sibling Lilly. Lana is going at it alone this time, though. During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Reeves (Neo) and Moss (Trinity) explained why they chose to return for The Matrix 4. Reeves said:

“Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me. That’s the only reason to do it. To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”

Moss added:

“I never thought that it would happen. It was never on my radar at all. When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, ‘This is a gift.’ It was just very exciting."

That’s pretty cool to hear. With both Neo and Trinity seemingly being killed off at the end of The Matrix: Revolutions, it'll be interesting to see how and why they end up being resurrected. I love The Matrix, so I’m pumped up for this flick!

The upcoming sequel also brings together Jada Pinkett Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan GroffThe Matrix 4 is set to hit theaters on May 21, 2021.
