Keanu Reeves Sets Fans Straight and Says Bill and Ted Are Not Stoners
Anyone familiar with the film Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure or its subsequent sequels knows the laidback, goofy personalities of the franchise’s protagonists, Bill S. Preston (Alex Winter) and Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan (Keanu Reeves). The guys are known as slackers and musicians, and some may think they have the aloof nature of a couple of stoners, but Keanu Reeves wants to set the record straight and clarify that Bill and Ted are not that.
In a 2020 interview with the Associated Press, transcribed and printed in Australian Rolling Stone (via /Film), Reeves explained:
"I'd like to get one thing straight, Bill and Ted are not stoners, let's get that clear. They have a nice outlook on life, they like people [and] their friendship."
I guess it makes sense. You never do see any drug paraphernalia in the guys’ garage or anything, and they do have a fair amount of pep in their step, unlike a typical stoner. And while they aren’t very motivated at school, they do end up passing their classes and going on to save the world with their music.
