Now that Tenet has been put off indefinitely, our next great hope for a movie released on schedule is the highly anticipated third film in the Bill and Ted franchise, Bill & Ted Face the Music. The movie is looking to be like a nostalgic hug with the stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprising their roles of Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq., respectively. The film also welcomes back the original writers, Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, so it’s no wonder the spirit of the film is largely similar to the first two movies.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Reeves said of the movie:

"We're still a pretty scrappy independent movie. It's part of the charm! This movie is very much in the spirit of the other two films across the board. So there are Easter egg cameos, and there are other important musical figures that are prominent. I don’t want to give too much of it away but the spirit of it, all the way down to the soundtrack... it’s a Bill & Ted movie, straight up.”

That’s great to hear! Winter added:

“People will recognise them as who they are from the get-go. They haven’t turned into different people. But a lot of the comic conceit comes from that idea. If you’ve got two normally unstoppable, persevering characters like this who are faced with a pretty great challenge, and they’re older, and they’re dealing with the realities of life on top of the challenges they’re facing, then what does that do?”

That really is an interesting twist on the characters. In the first two films, they had their struggles and obstacles to conquer, but they were teenagers. All they had to worry about were themselves. Now they are dads, and they are facing all of life’s adulthood challenges on top of the fact that they are responsible for making the song that is supposed to fulfill their destiny.

I can’t wait to see this movie! I really hope that we still get to see it in some way next month, even if theaters are not an option. For now, Bill & Ted Face the Music is set to hit on August 28th. Excellent!
