Keanu Reeves Wanted CONSTANTINE 2 to Happen So Bad, He Asked WB to Make It Every Year Until They Said Yes

After years of waiting, Warner Bros. finally decided to move forward with a sequel to the 2005 DC Film Constantine with Keanu Reeves returning to star and Francis Lawrence returning to direct. It was actually pretty shocking when that news initially dropped because I didn’t think it would ever happen!

Well, Constantine 2 is happening, and we can thank Keanu Reeves for helping push it forward because he never gave up on the sequel. In fact, in a recent interview with Total Film, the actor said that almost every year he would ask the studio to make a sequel until they finally said yes. He explained:

"I don't know if it was unfinished business but it was definitely a role that I loved. And I thought that Francis Lawrence, the director, did such amazing work. I loved playing that character, and I really enjoyed the film. I was like, [in a Oliver Twist voice] 'Can I please have some more?' "I kept asking almost every year. I'd be like, 'Can I please?' and they'd be like, 'No, no!'"

But, they eventually gave in and said yes and J.J. Abrams is set to produce the film with Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, Star Trek: Strange New Words) set to write the script. Reeves went on to share his excitement for the project:

"So it's exciting. It's almost like an open playground that we can hopefully cook something up and play in, and I guess get out of the playground and prepare a meal. But I'm looking forward to it, and hopefully it can happen. You don't know how these things go. But I'm definitely going to try my darndest to try and realise that dream."

I can’t wait to see what Reeves, Lawrence, and Goldsman end up doing with this sequel, but Reeves is obviously planning on having a blast making it! As of right now the creative team is "just starting to try and put a story together."

Are you stoked that Constantine 2 is finally being made?
