Kevin Feige and Tom Holland Address Spider-Man's Split From Marvel - "It Was Never Meant To Last Forever"
For those of you wondering what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and actor Tom Holland have to say about Spider-Man leaving the MCU because Disney and Sony couldn’t find a way to keep working with each other, they talked to Entertainment Weekly and addressed the situation.
Both are keeping positive in their comments and explain how they are just grateful for the opportunity that they’ve been given. Feige says:
"I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy. We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that."
That certainly sounds like there’s nothing else to work out with Sony. What’s done is done and both studios are moving on with their separate universes. Holland goes on to confirm that he will continue to play Spider-Man for Sony, but that it will be different:
"Basically, we’ve made five great movies. It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler."
Will it be equally as awesome and amazing with out Marvel, Kevin Feige, and the connection to the MCU? Probably not, but who knows. Maybe Sony will surprise me like they did with Into The Spider-Verse.
These are both very diplomatic answers that don’t hurt Sony or Disney. What I want to know is what they are really saying about it behind closes doors with each other and not in front of the cameras!
