Kevin Feige Confirms What That Was in The Mid-Credits Scene For THOR: RAGNAROK
Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok is now in theaters and so far the fans seem to be absolutely loving it! I'm sure some of you have seen it already, but in case you haven't, this article contains spoilers regarding one of the post-credits scenes.
The first post-credit scene seemingly teases Avengers: Infinity War. It features Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) as they are flying through space in a giant spacecraft that is headed to Earth and Loki is worried about what he will face when he gets there. As they are having their conversation, a gigantic spacecraft that dwarfs their ship appears in front of them and the scene ends.
The scene doesn't give us a clear answer of whose ship that is, but people are assuming that it's Thanos (Josh Brolin), and that is the correct assumption. Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige confirmed to The Wrap:
“We call it the Sanctuary II."
Sanctuary II is the name of the flagship of Thanos, who is on a journey to collect all the Infinity Stones for his gauntlet and use them to destroy the universe. His story arc will be told through the course of the final two Avengers films in this third phase of Marvel Studio's grand plan.
In case you're wondering about the original Sanctuary, we've already seen it. It's that planet where Thanos sits on his throne directing his henchmen and watching everything play about. We've seen it in both The Avengers and in Guardians of The Galaxy. He's obviously going to get in on the action himself and get his hands dirty. The site explains:
Sanctuary II, being a space ship, is more mobile than some celestial body like Sanctuary, and it would make sense to find it on the move as we approach “Infinity War.” It’s not, at least in comics lore, a superweapon.
Thanos' real weapon of power is the Infinity Gauntlet.
This mid-credits scene will lead to Thor floating through space unconscious. That scene is shown in the first footage we saw from Avengers: Infinity War, and he ends up smashing into the windshield of the ship of The Guardians of the Galaxy where they bring him on board and he will lead them on their new adventure to help save the universe... again.
