Kevin Feige Describes How This Saga's Villain, Kang the Conqueror, Is Different From Thanos

It was revealed this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con that the MCU’s second saga will consist of phases 4-7, and will be called The Multiverse Saga. It will culminate with two Avengers films, just as the Infinity Saga did before it, and these films are to be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Our heroes have battled many villainous characters across the many films, but none were as destructive and hard to beat as The Infinity Saga’s Thanos.

This next big bad obstacle comes in the form of Kang the Conqueror, who is played by Jonathan Majors. We saw him first at the end of the Loki series, and he is set to appear next in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. The actor is suave and captivating in the role, and MCU President Kevin Feige talked about his magnetism in a recent interview with ComicBook, saying:

"It comes down to the cast and with Jonathan Majors, who I think took over the Hall H stage, you know, in the three minutes he was up there. It's amazing, and I said to him there's nobody's shoulders I'd rather be putting the multiverse saga on than his. It's really impressive what Jonathan Majors is able to do and all the different incarnations, variants, if you will, of Kang that we will see him do. It's really pretty cool."

He went on to talk about Kang versus Thanos:

"What I love is that he's totally different from Thanos. That he is completely different. That it's not just how about there's a bigger purple guy with a helmet? That's not what Kang is. Kang is a very different type of villain and the fact that he is many, many different characters is what's most exciting and most differentiates him."

When Jonathan Majors took the stage at Comic-Con, he was asked if he could say anything about his character’s future, and he simply said, “There will be conquering.” Of course, he couldn’t say more, but just that sentence and his beaming smile lit up the audience in an exciting way. I can’t wait to see how this saga unfolds, and I’m thrilled to see Kang unleashed on the MCU.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is set to hit theaters on February 17, 2023.
