Kevin Feige Discuses THE ETERNALS and Says We'll Learn More About The Agenda of The Celestials
With The Infinity Saga behind them, Marvel Studios is 100% focused on the future of the MCU and one of the films that a lot of fans have been curious about is The Eternals, which was officially announced at Comic-Con this past weekend.
It was explained that the film will follow The Eternals, who are a race of immortal aliens who are sent to Earth by the Celestials to protect humankind from the Deviants. The director of the film, Chloé Zhao, explained, “It’s about this group of incredible immortals, but through their journey, we really get to explore what it means to be human and humanity on our time on this planet.”
After the panel ended Kevin Feige went back stage to talk to members of the press and while talking to CB about the movie, he teased the Eternals connections to other MCU films like Guardians of the Galaxy and says we’ll learn more about the agenda of the Celestials.
"It will be a story that will introduce you to this incredibly eclectic group of immortals, they're the focus of the story. It takes place in our universe — it takes place in the MCU, so you'll hear mentions and stuff about it but yes, the Celestials go back a long way. We know a little bit about them. The Collector told us about Celestials, Knowhere is the severed head of a Celestial. Ego was involved with them, but we learn much more about their agenda and what they've been up to."
I love the Marvel lore involving the Celestials and Eternals and I can’t wait to see how they are handled in this upcoming film. I can’t wait to get more of a backstory on the Celestials and their place in the MCU. There’s a good chance that Eternals could end up being one of the most epic films in the MCU that has been set in the cosmos. At least that’s what I’m hoping for!
The main characters in the film will be played by Angelina Jolie (Thena), Richard Madden (Icarus), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Lia McHugh (Sprite), and Don Lee (Gilgamesh).
Eternals is already shooting in London, and the film is set to hit theaters on November 6th, 2020.
