Kevin Feige Discusses Spider-Man's Five Film Story Arc and How It Leads Into the Next MCU Phase

Marvel Studios has big plans for Tom Holland's Spider-Man. They've planned out a story arc for the character that encompasses five films and as we previously heard, Spider-Man will lead us into the next phase of the MCU.

I remember early rumors years ago leak out that suggested Doctor Strange would be the next Tony Stark type character that would lead the franchise after Robert Downey Jr. was ready to leave. Now it seems like Spider-Man is going to be that character that moves the MCU story forward.

In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Kevin Feige talked a bit more about Spider-Man's five film story arc and he once again confirms that the fourth Avengers film will end the 22-movie MCU story arc that started with Iron Man. He explains:

"We are looking at a five-movie storyline — Civil War, Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, untitled Avengers, Homecoming 2 — or whatever we end up calling it — as an amazing five-story journey for Peter Parker. In the way that the events of Civil War directly inform the opening of Homecoming and his state of mind as he goes back to high school, so too will the events of the next two Avengers movies as he continues with high school. This original 22-movie arc ends with the untitled Avengers in May of 2019 and then two months later it will be Peter and Spider-Man that usher us into the aftermath and how things proceed from there."

It was previously revealed that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel would start minutes after Avengers 4 ended. So that Spider-Man 2 film launches us right into Marvel's next movie phase. I'm so excited to see what happens in the next phase of the MCU! I know we've still got a long way to go, but it will be over before we know it and a new generation of MCU films will begin.

One thing is for sure, it sounds like Spider-Man will be sticking around the MCU for years to come. If he is going to be the glue of the next phase of the MCU films, there's no doubt that he'll be popping in and out of all the other MCU films that will end up being made after the fourth Avengers film.
