Kevin Feige Discusses the Importance of BLACK PANTHER and What the Film Explores

When I saw Black Panther come to life for the first time in Captain America: Civil War I was super excited to see his story continue in the upcoming solo film Black Panther. They nailed this character perfectly and in the near future, we'll get to see a whole story arc dedicated to him.

Marvel decided to pretty much skip the origin story with Black Panther, and they are just launching a film that focuses on a hero who's already a hero and has been a hero for quite some time. This next film will be focusing on the challenge of this hero who is now adjusting to being a King and that's pretty damn interesting.

When talking about Black Panther, director Ryan Coogler says in a preview feature for Doctor Strange:

"Panther exists in a grey area. In addition to being a soldier, he has a more important job as a politician. He's constantly making these choices in the fog of politics and the fog of war."

Marvel is extremely excited about working with the character because of how "hugely important" he is to the Marvel Universe. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says:

“We deal with royalty, we deal with royal families, but unlike our other films, it’s right here on Earth. We get to explore different cultures and different aspects of our world.
"Black Panther is a hugely important Marvel character, hugely important in the history of comics."

He then goes on to praise the cast and crew that they've gathered together to bring this movie to life, saying:

"We put together a cast and crew among the best that we've ever assembled, led by director Ryan Coogler."

We recently posted some concept art for the film that you've gotta check out if you haven't seen already. It seriously looks like it will be a beautifully designed film, and it will be filled with an awesome cast that includes Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

It really does sound like Marvel is going to give us a badass Black Panther film that fans are going to love. I'm excited to see how the story ends up playing out!

Black Panther is currently filming and will be released on February 16, 2018.
