Kevin Feige Explains That Marvel's Disney+ Series Are an "Adrenaline Boost" for the Franchise
Marvel Studios has some epic plans for its lineup of Disney+ shows. It’s all going to start with WandaVision, which looks great, and then continue with shows such as The Flacon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, Ms. Marvel, Armor Wars, and more. It’s so exciting because on top of that we also have a bunch of films coming out that these shows will actually connect to, for real.
During a recent interview with Emmy Magazine, Feige walked about this big move to TV and explained that this direction will give the franchise an “adrenaline boost."
"Streaming is 100 percent the future and where consumers want to watch things. And hopefully they'll want to watch our longform narrative series. An experience like WandaVision is something you can't get in a movie. You go to movies for things you can't get on streaming, and you go to streaming for things you can't get in a theater. And of course, everything in a theater goes to streaming eventually."
After Marvel Studios delivered what they did with their first 23 film, Feige said, "My team and I were wondering internally about where to go from here, and what would be the next step that was equally challenging and unexpected." The series idea is the direction that they opted to go, and he called it an "adrenaline boost."
He then used WandaVision and the characters Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as an example of their series plans, saying:
"Elizabeth and Paul were these amazing actors — who had done amazing things in four movies — but never had a chance to dominate the narrative because there was so much else going on. It felt fun to finally give them a platform to showcase their astounding talent."
As you’ve seen they will be showcasing a lot of talent with some of these other characters, and then, of course, they will be introducing completely new characters into the MCU, which is super exciting.
WandaVision begins streaming only on Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
