Kevin Feige Explains Why Nick Fury Didn't Page Captain Marvel Before INFINITY WAR, But Maybe He Did...

One big question that a lot of Marvel fans have regarding Captain Marvel is why in the hell didn’t Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) page her earlier, before the events of Avengers: Infinity War. After all, there was a lot of heavy stuff that went down where they could have used her help, especially with the Battle of New York when a wormhole from space opened up and an army of aliens rushed in to attack.

Well, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has an answer. /Film recently asked him about this, and this was his response:

“Well, I’d say two things. One, she does say it’s gotta be a real emergency, right? Yeah.”

I guess aliens attacking New York City wasn’t a big enough emergency. Samuel L. Jackson has his own thoughts on the matter and told IGN:

“We finally have an emergency that I feel warrants her presence. This is unprecedented. How are you gonna fight that? I can’t fight that. If I’m not here, I need to find someone to come here who can handle it. All those people are ineffective. They’re great for normal, everyday world disaster. But intergalactic badass who has all the Infinity Stones needs a bit more.”

But then Feige went on to tease that Fury may have actually paged her before Infinity War:

“The other thing I’d say is how do you know he never hit it? How do we know he never pushed it before? We’ve never seen him push it before. That doesn’t mean he never did.”

Interesting. That’s the kind of answer that I like to hear! This might also be a story that could eventually be told. In a previously interview with CW, Feige said that while Captain Marvel is now with us in the present day MCU, the years between Captain Marvel and Iron Man “is ripe with potential for storytelling."

I really enjoyed Captain Marvel. I like the character, and I would love to see the character’s background explored more in the MCU. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get another Captain Marvel prequel film.
