Kevin Feige on SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Being the True Conclusion to the Infinity Saga

Fans were kind of surprised when we found out that the first three phases of the MCU, known as the Infinity Saga, were not in fact ending with the film Avengers: Endgame, as that movie was the resolution of the MCU’s biggest cliffhanger and was arguably the biggest shift in the 22-film arc. While many thought that wrapped up the phase with a bow, we were told that the final film will actually be Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hits theaters next week.

Fans have been wondering what it is about this film that will be a better conclusion to the now 23-film saga, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained recently in an interview (via CBM) that this was always the plan. Here’s what he had to say about it:

"We’ve been working for many years on Infinity War and Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Those were the films that were culminating the entire Infinity Saga of the MCU. And as we were working on Endgame we realized that the true end of the entire Infinity Saga, the final film of Phase 3, had to be Spider-Man: Far From Home, because we lose Tony Stark at the end of Endgame."

This makes sense because Peter was definitely one of the ones who took the death of Tony the hardest. He was his mentor, father figure, boss, colleague, and friend. So instead of the films wrapping up with the loss, it will hopefully feel more healing to get into how Peter is doing in the aftermath, as well as how the world is doing after the insane events of the second snap. The report also quoted Feige as saying:

"The relationship between Peter Parker and Tony Stark is so special over the five films that Tom Holland has portrayed Spider-Man in the MCU, that we needed to see where his journey went, and see how does Spider-Man step out of the shadow of his mentor, Tony Stark, and become the true hero that he was always meant to be. And it’s for that reason that Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home are essentially two pieces of the same story, and it’s not over yet until Spider-Man: Far From Home."

So now that the plan is all laid out, let’s get on with it! Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters next Tuesday, July 2nd. Do you have your tickets yet?
