Kevin Feige Revealed What Started the Use of Post-Credit Scenes in Marvel Movies

Before the era of Marvel, very few films put anything after the credits. However, each film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a post-credits scene and some have had mid-credit scenes. They’ve been a real treat for many fans and a great way for Marvel to hint at the future of the films and/or include small Easter eggs without derailing the plot of the film. But why did Marvel start doing these with Iron Man? Kevin Feige revealed to EW recently that he was inspired to use this type of scene by Ferris Bueller's Day Off. At the end of that movie, Matthew Broderick pokes his head back and tells the audience to go home.

It was the greatest thing in the world. I thought it was hilarious. It was like a little reward for me for sitting through the credits.

It occurred to us [while making Iron Man], ‘Well, we don’t have X-Men, we don’t have Fantastic Four, we don’t have Spider-Man, but we have everything else.’ Even though everything else hadn’t been turned into a big film before, or had the name recognition among non-comic-book readers that others ones did, we had the opportunity to start putting certain heroes in other heroes’ movies, which hadn’t been done before. It’s a bonus of what’s to come.

The rest of the interview is great if you want to know more about how they decide what scenes will be used as a mid- or post-credit scene and more. Be sure to stay and watch a number of scenes disclosed here at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. What’s your favorite post- or mid-credit scene?

Avengers: Infinity War will be released April 27, 2018.
