Kevin Feige Says Chloé Zhao's Pitch For ETERNALS is The Best He's Ever Heard
Out of all the Marvel projects set to be released during phase four, I’ve noticed that the least amount of excitement is for Eternals. Well, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is looking to change that and build up some more hype for it.
During a recent profile of director Chloé Zhao by Rolling Stone, Feige praised the director and said that "Zhao’s pitch for the movie the is best he’d ever heard." He added:
"Not only does Chloe make remarkable, small, personal movies in a remarkable, small, personal way, but she thinks in grand, cosmic, gigantic terms, which fit perfectly with what we wanted to do. Eternals is a very big, sweeping, multimillennial-spanning story. And she just got it."
That should give fans a little boost of confidence in the movie and the director. It has been teased that Eternals could go “further and bigger” than Avengers: Endgame. But that’s something we’ll just have to wait and see.
Marvel should record their pitch meetings and then release them as part of the special features. I would love to see how some of these pitch meetings go!
Eternals stars Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Richard Madden as Icarus, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and then there’s Kit Harrington as an archeologist named Dane Whitman.
A lot of the film’s story details have been kept under wraps, but here’s the synopsis that was released:
Marvel Studios' The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants.
In the comics, The Eternals were sent to Earth 35,000 years ago by the Celestials to protect humankind from the Deviants. The director, Chloé Zhao, previously explained, “It’s about this group of incredible immortals, but through their journey, we really get to explore what it means to be human and humanity on our time on this planet.”
It’s also explained in a description for the film that following the events of Avengers: Endgame, “an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants.”
Eternals will be released in theaters on November 5th, 2021.
