Kevin Feige Says Marvel May Have to Recast Some Superhero Roles

Marvel makes sure to lock their actors into multipicture deals. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says that all of the key players in the MCU are locked in at least as far as Marvel has movies planned out. As of right now, that extends out to 2019. Those movies include Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War—Part 1, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Infinity War—Part 2, and Inhumans. When those contracts are fulfilled, what's going to happen?

In the past, Feige has talked about replacing actors in the same way that James Bond has been played by several different actors over the years. Feige admits in an interview with THR that the day will eventually come when some of these MCU actors are going to be replaced with new faces:

"But one day, it will be a combination. It will be a combination of choosing which characters to continue on with and explore and which to bring in, as we're doing with Captain Marvel and Black Panther. And certainly to recast in some way or another – as we've already done in certain cases. Certainly many other franchises have reached that milestone before we have and done that with great success."

It a good thing they are thinking ahead. I'm actually ok with other actors filling the shoes of superheroes that we've come to know and love in the MCU. Yeah, it's going to be a little jarring and weird at first, but a lot of these actors can't or won't play these characters forever. If Marvel has to recast them to keep these awesome movies coming, then so be it. As long as those new actors fit the part I'll be happy.

Of course, it doesn't sound like everyone is going to make it out of this third phase alive, so some of these character might just end up being killed off for good, which is sad but necessary to propel the stories forward. I'm sure we could also see a couple other heroes simply ride off into the sunset. That's a future I see for characters like Hawkeye and Tony Stark.

We've still got a ways to go before Marvel takes any action in replacing anyone, but it will be interesting to see how they handle things when they come to those crossroads.
