Kevin Feige Says DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS "Will Make EVIL DEAD II Fans Very Happy"
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently made a statement about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that is sure to perk the excitement of Sam Raimi fans!
Raimi launched his filmmaking career with the Evil Dead horror franchise, and there’s a style to those films that Raimi has incorporated into the movies he’s made since. Raimi has such a fun and playful directing style and you can bet your ass that we will see that style in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel.
In a recent interview with Empire, Feige confirmed that when they brought Raimi in, they wanted him to bring his signature style with him with his kinetic camerawork and fun, dark humor. He said:
“We want it to be a Sam Raimi movie. We would give notes like, ‘This action is cool – you’re competing with Avengers and Spider-Man, no problem – but don’t forget the Sam Raimi parts.’ You will see just how Sam Raimi it is, in ways that will make fans of Evil Dead II very happy.”
Yep, hearing that certainly makes me happy! That’s what I wanted when Raimi was brought in to direct! We’ve seen some of that style in the trailers for the film, and I can’t wait to see more!
In a previous interview, Feige explained that he didn’t think that he would actually be able to get Raimi on board to direct. He said, "Our executive producer, Eric Carroll, and Richie Palmer were calling around to see who was interested, and Sam's agent said, 'What about Sam Raimi?' We thought, 'That would be incredible, but there's no chance of that.' But he wanted to come in and meet. And in the first meeting, it was amazing to reconnect with him, and see his enthusiasm to jump back into this world."
Raimi enthusiastically jumped on board and said, “I have missed directing. It’s really the only thing I know how to do. I couldn’t be a stockbroker or a banker or a plumber, and I’m thrilled to be working with my old friend Kevin Feige.”
As a fan, I couldn’t be more excited about Raimi directing this movie!
Benedict Cumberbatch is back as Doctor Strange, and he’s joined by Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. The movie also stars Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams, who will be back as Wong, Karl Mordo, and Christine Palmer, respectively. Xochitl Gomez has also joined the cast as America Chavez.
In Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
Now that Iron Man and Captain America have left after a fierce battle in Avengers: Endgame, former genius surgeon and the strongest magician of them all, Doctor Strange, is expected to play an active role as a central figure in the Avengers. However, using his magic to manipulate time and space at will with a forbidden spell that is considered the most dangerous has opened the door to a mysterious madness called ‘the Multiverse.’ To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong (Benedict Wong), the Sorcerer Supreme, and the Avengers’ most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen). But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone. Even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange…
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be in theaters on May 6th, 2022.
