Kevin Feige's Response to the Future of Female-Led MCU Projects Gets Dragged by Fans

Kevin Feige attended the Shanghai Expo this past week, and gave fans a few updates on future MCU projects. While most of the news was exciting, one bit ruffled some feathers.

While taking questions from the audience, Feige was asked by a fan if there were more female-led projects in the works, and Feige responded, “Well, Marvel is 90 years old, there are so many great female characters and some of my favorite female characters are in a group called the X-Men, and the X-Men are coming up very, very soon.”

On the one hand, Feige has been saying there are female-led superhero projects theoretically in the works for the last decade, and this non-answer must be frustrating for fans who are hoping for storylines like Lady Liberators, A-Force, Dora Milaje and the like. But on the other hand, Feige is coming out of an MCU slump, and the films focusing on the women of Marvel have been hit or miss in the past.

His current focus is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars, with the promise of the new X-Men on the horizon.

I wouldn’t rule out a cool team up women superheroes at some point, but it’s just not in the immediate plans. For now, I’m happy with the lady characters in the MCU and the stories in which they play pivotal roles.
