Kevin James and Alan Ritchson’s PLAYDATE Trailer Turns Dad Duty into Absolute Chaos

Prime Video has dropped the official trailer for Playdate, a wild new action comedy that takes the simple idea of two dads hanging out and cranks it to ridiculous levels.

In Playdate, Kevin James plays Brian, a recently unemployed accountant just trying to make it through an afternoon of small talk and football tossing with fellow stay-at-home dad Jeff, played by Alan Ritchson. But this ordinary suburban get-together quickly spirals into a full-blown action spectacle. The synopsis teases:

The synopsis reads: “When recently unemployed accountant Brian (Kevin James) agrees to a playdate with charismatic stay-at-home dad Jeff (Alan Ritchson) and their sons, he expects an easy afternoon of small talk and football tossing.

“Instead, he's thrust into a chaotic scramble to stay alive as they are pursued by a ruthless team of mercenaries. Brian stumbles through one ridiculous obstacle after another, his zero tactical skills a stark contrast to Jeff's oddly prepared demeanor.

“The movie hilariously collides suburban dad life with high-stakes thrills, transforming a regular afternoon into an absurd action-packed adventure where minivan mayhem meets hitmen.”

If that doesn’t scream “Dad Movie of the Year,” nothing does. The trailer is loaded with over-the-top action, slapstick gags, and the kind of buddy chemistry you’d expect from James and Ritchson. Think True Lies meets Daddy Day Care.

The cast also includes Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce, Hiro Kanagawa, Stephen Root, and Isla Fisher.

This is the kind of ridiculous, family-friendly chaos that feels right at home on streaming. So if you’re looking for some mindless fun this November, grab a drink, park yourself on the couch, and enjoy the show!

The film is directed by Luke Greenfield, known for Let’s Be Cops and The Girl Next Door, and it’s set to start streaming exclusively on Prime Video on November 12, 2025, just in time for Thanksgiving weekend.
