Kevin Smith Brings Spider-Man and Hulk Together for a Wild Marvel Event Comic with SPIDER-MAN/HULK: FIRE AND BRIMSTONE

Marvel is throwing Spider-Man and Hulk into absolute chaos this summer with Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone, a new four-issue limited series from Kevin Smith, Andy McElfresh, and artist R.B. Silva.

We’re talking nonstop superhero mayhem, rapid-fire jokes, bizarre villains, and an actual exorcism for Bruce Banner. Pairing Peter Parker and Bruce Banner is always a recipe for disaster. Add Smith’s love of pop culture references and offbeat comedy into the mix, and this thing sounds completely unhinged.

The story kicks off during Easter Mass in Central Park when Mole Man crashes the gathering alongside an army of Man-themed villains. Naturally, Spider-Man jumps into action, but things spiral into something much stranger once Hulk enters the picture.

What starts as a standard superhero throwdown quickly turns into something much bigger when Peter teams up with Matt Murdock and learns Banner is attempting to rid himself of the Hulk permanently through an exorcism organized by the church.

Yeah, Marvel is really doing “The Exorcist meets Hulk,” and I’m hear for it! Marvel describes as:

“THWIP-SMASH! Legendary writers Kevin Smith and Andy McElfresh team up with superstar artist R.B. Silva for the newest high-octane adventure for Spider-Man and Hulk! It’s nonstop action! Side-splitting quips! And...the exorcism of Bruce Banner?!”

Smith also shared his excitement for diving into Hulk territory for the first time, saying: "I’ve played with Peter Parker and swung with Spider-Man before, but this is the first time I’m having Hulk issues.

“Andy and I are dropping two of Marvel’s most well-known scientists into a spiritual story of Biblical proportions as we exorcise the Incredible Hulk - and I’m not talking cross-fit!"

Smith previously wrote Marvel’s acclaimed Daredevil run and has spent decades wearing his comic book fandom proudly on his sleeve, so seeing him jump back into the Marvel Universe with Spider-Man and Hulk feels like a perfect fit.

The comic arrives just weeks after Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters, which will reportedly feature Tom Holland’s Spider-Man sharing the screen with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk for the first time in live-action. Marvel clearly knows fans are ready to see these two characters bounce off each other again in a big way.

Between the giant monster fights, church exorcisms, ridiculous villains, and the inevitable stream of Peter Parker quips, Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone sounds like the kind of comic that fully embraces how weird and fun superhero stories can be.

The first issue lands in August.
