Kevin Smith Expresses His Concerns That the Next Spider-Man Film Will Be a Letdown, as FAR FROM HOME Was a Perfect Film

Everyone is a little nervous about the future of the Spider-Man films. We finally have a Peter Parker we all love, who has been through the ringer as an Avenger and still has a lot of story left to tell. But without the connection to the MCU, his history is erased, and he can no longer pull from his past to show us who he has become. All of us fans are trepidatious, but not all of us have a podcast to talk about it.

Actor and director Kevin Smith has always been pretty vocal regarding his fan opinions, so he recently took to his podcast Fatman Beyond to express his concern. Here’s what he had to say:

“I just watched Spider-Man: Far from Home this morning, it’s available on home video or whatever the fuck. So, I got a little bit of taste [of Tony] there and stuff and once again, like I hate to be this guy, but rewatching that movie, but that Spider-Man is perfect. I really hope these fuckers like figure their shit out. Last I heard was Sony said, ‘Hey, we’ll offer you 30% of the box office' to Disney and we’re still waiting to hear back.”

Far From Home is predicated on, ‘I miss Tony so much.’ If the next movie is like, ‘Tony who? Where’s Uncle Ben?,’ like, it’s gonna be a real fucking letdown. It’s gonna be a bummer, I really hope they figure it out.”

Same, Kevin Smith, same. I’m hoping this whole situation is just a bluff, like when Marvel fired James Gunn. We were all outraged for a while, then they made it all right. Let’s do a repeat before the ball gets rolling on the next film. Do you think the film could succeed if the divorce stays put?
