Kevin Smith Gets Crazy Excited Over the Idea of a BATMAN BEYOND Movie with Micheal Keaton
One of the reason why I like Kevin Smith is because he’s such a hardcore fanboy! The filmmaker completely geeks out and loses his shit over the same movies and TV shows that we do. He’s just in a unique position as a filmmaker to have more insight, and he has a big fanbase that likes to hear his opinion.
Anyway! Fans have been wanting to see a Batman Beyond movie happen for years! The fan casting of Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne in a Batman Beyond movie isn’t really that new either. But when it was recently suggested to Kevin Smith on a recent episode of Smith and Marc Bernardin's Fat Man on Batman podcast, the filmmaker flipped out over the idea and said it would make a billion dollars.
The topic of Batman Beyond came up when Bernardin brought up the fact that it was the 20th anniversary of the animated series. Smith said, "They should do this as a live-action movie today," and then Bernardin suggested that they should bring Michael Keaton back for it and that’s when Smith went off on the awesomeness of that:
“That would be fucking amazing. Could you imagine? Oh my God...that movie makes a billion, right there man. If you're like Michael Keaton's coming back, people like 'how is that possible' and you're like 'because he's Batman Beyond Bitch and people are 'oh fuck we wanted this our whole lives!' This is fucking good and I am down with this. When can we go?"
I would love to see a Batman Beyond movie with Michael Keaton back in the role of Bruce Wayne. I would actually kinda love to see the film set in the same universe that was created by Tim Burton. It would be really interesting to see how that world has evolved in the year 2039.
I doubt it will ever happen, but it totally should! Even if they don’t set it in Burton’s universe, it would still be amazing to see Keaton reprise his role of Bruce Wayne.
