Kevin Smith is Writing a New Version of CLERKS 3 and Wants Jeff Anderson to Return
Kevin Smith had already written a script for Clerks 3. He announced that he was working on the film back in 2017 and a few weeks before it was scheduled to shoot, the movie fell apart because franchise star Jeff Anderson, who played Randal Graves ended up dropping out.
Last year Smith said the film wouldn’t be happening in the foreseeable future, but it looks like that all changed! Smith has revealed that he is currently writing a new version of Clerks 3 and he’s hoping to convince Jeff Anderson to come back and star in it. After all, he can’t make Clerks 3 without him or co-star Brian O'Halloran.
After he was able to smooth things out with his old friend Ben Affleck, Smith is hoping he can do the same thing with Anderson. He’s hoping that this new version of the script that he’s working on will entice Anderson to return. When talking about the state of mind he was in while writing the first Clerks 3 script, and promised that he would make Clerks 3 with this new script:
“When I wrote Clerks 3, I wrote it during a weirder, darker point in my life, and it's kind of like the King Lear of our movies. I love it, it's one of my favorite scripts, but it's dark. It's bleak, and it's not what Dante and Randal deserve. We're never going to make that version of Clerks 3, but I'm going to write a different Clerks 3 and we're going to make that fucking film, I promise. And in a world where we got to bring Ben [Affleck] back, I'll be able to bring Jeff back. They gave me this much, I owe them one last thing.”
I hope that Smith can make Clerks 3 work this time around. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Clerks 3. I’m really curious about what this original, darker script of his entailed, though. Regardless, maybe this new script will be the magic ticket he needs to getting the film into production.
