Kevin Smith Provides a Nuanced Response to The New GHOSTBUSTERS Trailer
Paul Feig's new Ghostbusters movie has been a topic of heated debate since it was announced that the main cast members would all be female. Thanks to a torrent of misogynist fanboys who spoke out against the movie for crapping on their childhoods, the film has somehow become a beacon for progressive and feminist ideologies, and since the internet is a place that instantly becomes polarized into camps on either extreme, it's basically come down to this mentality: if you don't like the movie, you're a woman-hating scumbag.
I've read enough comments on this site to know that we do have a handful of guys who are honest-to-God misogynists that troll around here, but the majority of you are capable of making a more nuanced judgment, and here's where filmmaker Kevin Smith comes in as the surprising voice of reason. What if you don't like the trailer, not because the movie stars women, but because it just wasn't really that funny? On a recent episode of Hollywood Babble On podcast, he and co-host Ralph Garman broke it down:
I haven't agreed with Smith about anything for a while, but I'm right there with him on this one: I really like all the people involved with the film, and I'll just hold out hope that the final movie turns out to be much better than that trailer indicated. What do you all think?
