Kevin Smith Says The Last Shot of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER "Will Melt Your Mind"

Kevin Smith was lucky enough to be invited to the set of director J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and while he was there the crew was hyping up the final shot of the movie.

While talking to IGN, Smith explained that when he visited Pinewood Studios to check out the set of The Rise of Skywalker, everyone was telling him there was one set he needed to see because it would “melt your mind.” Abrams told him not to go see the set though because it was for the last shot of the movie and something he had to experience on the big screen. Here’s how Smith tells it:

“There was a scuttlebutt about the set there at Pinewood. They’re like, ‘You have to see this. When you see it, it will melt your mind.’ So I ask J.J., ‘They keep telling me I should see the set.’ He’s like, ‘Don’t. It’s the last shot of the movie. You don’t want this spoiled. You want to be in a theater when this happens. Trust me.'”

Man… if I was Kevin Smith I would have rushed in to see the set! For something so epic, to see it in person and be able to walk around looking at it and touching things… that’s a once in a life time opportunity! He explains that he was tempted, but ultimately decided not to look, and he explains why:

“Other people on the crew were like, ‘Bro, I wish I hadn’t seen it, but it will melt your mind.' As inquisitive as I am, and as curious as I am, I desperately wanted to go look. But when you talk to the magician, and the magician is like, ‘Trust me on this one.’ You know, sometimes as human beings we want to know how they pull the rabbit out of the hat, but J.J. is such a magical magician that I’m just like, ‘ You know what? Do it. Trick me. I’ll wait and get tricked.’ Even though I could have seen what it was, I was like, ‘I’ll sit back. I like your plan.’ He’s never let me down so far.”

I can’t wait to see what this final shot of the movie will be! This is going to be the end of the Skywalker saga and it’s hard to even guess what it might be. I imagine it’s going to be something powerful enough to punch the fans in the face with emotion.

My expectations for the film have now been upped to “mind melting”. Now if my mind isn’t melted by the final shot of the film, I’m going to be very disappointed.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters on December 20th, 2019.
