Kevin Smith Teases a Massive Big Budget Film Project That He Hopes To Release Next Year
It looks like Kevin Smith has a new film project he's developing which he says is the biggest budgeted thing that he's ever done. The news comes shortly after Comic-Con ended and he teased it on his Instagram, saying:
"Just finished a huge writing gig that I haven’t talked about publicly yet. It’s the most massive IP I’ve ever been allowed to play with and if the powers that be decide to move forward with the project, it would be the biggest budgeted anything I’ve ever done. Wish me luck…"
He goes on to add:
"Fingers crossed that I get to talk about this one day soon. Or better yet, fingers crossed, we all get to watch it next year…"
Smith has a couple of projects in the pipeline already including Killroy Was Here and the Jay and Silent Bob reboot. Smith has never really had a huge blockbuster hit, but that all could change with this mysterious project that he's excited about.
As for what this project could be, Smith already said that he wouldn't be directing any Marvel or Star Wars movies anytime soon, but DC is always an option. The filmmaker has directed episodes of The Flash and Supergirl, so maybe Warner Bros. is looking at bringing him in for one of DC's upcoming films? It wouldn't be the first time he's been a part of a DC film project. But, there's always the chance that it could be something completely different! He also elaborated on the project in an episode of his Hollywood Babble-On podcast:
"I just finished a big script. It was a big gig I had and I haven’t talked about it yet, and I can’t talk about it yet. But hopefully, if they decide to go forward with it, then that’s all I’ll do is talk about it.
"But yeah, it was the biggest thing that I ever worked on. Somebody else’s IP, not mine. And then if it goes, it would be the fuckin’ biggest budget thing that I was ever involved with. So we’ll see what happens.
"Every once in a while, I remember what it’s like to be in high school. It’s kind of strange, where I’m like, ‘Oh, sh-t, somebody expects something.’ So it was a weird run up to it. But I was happy, I finished it and I was really delighted with it, it’s fun. But hopefully, if they give it a blessing, if it goes forward, we spend the better part of next year working on it."
All we can do at this point is speculate what it is that he might be working on. Whatever it is, I hope that it works out for him. Smith is an entertaining guy and I'd like to see what kind of film he would make with a big budget!
