Kiefer Sutherland Might Return to 24: LEGACY as Jack Bauer After All
After falling out of love with the original 24 in a big way when the show was regularly on the air, tuning in for a couple episodes of 24: Live Another Day and then bailing on that, I was really hoping to like 24: Legacy. But as much as the first trailer introduced a new protagonist and tried to give it a fresh setup, it still looks very similar to the version that came before it (which, of course, is exactly what the network wants). It's a little too similar for my tastes, but that's fine — hopefully those who dug the show all the way through its run will dig this one, too.
After telling the BBC a few months ago that he would "definitely not return in any way" for more 24, original series star Kiefer Sutherland has now apparently changed his mind. Deadline relays a quote from producer Howard Gordon, who told a crowd at the ATX Television Festival that in regards to coming back and reprising his role as Agent Jack Bauer, Sutherland "hasn't ruled it out" and "the character feels alive" to appear in the spinoff or a future movie.
Sutherland is going to be headlining a new show called Designated Survivor, but apparently there's enough room for him to show up in a supporting capacity as Bauer in a storyline during the back half of Legacy's first season. He's taking an executive producer credit on the new show, but doesn't yet have a contract in place to act in it. We'll see if he changes his mind officially, or if he's finally left the insane life of CTU behind him.
